SHOCKING NEWS!! Coronation Street Stars Uncover Rovers Return’s Boozy Secrets Following ‘Iconic’ Update

Coronation Street stars Jack P. Shepherd, Ben Price, and Colson Smith recently shared some behind-the-scenes secrets

from their time on the iconic soap, including what’s actually served at the Rovers Return. Known for their roles as David

Platt, Nick Tilsley, and PC Craig Tinker, the trio also hosts a podcast, On The Sofa, where they chat about their lives, work

, and everything in between.

Initially named Sofa Cinema Club due to their different tastes in films, the podcast’s synopsis reads: “A friendship formed on those famous cobbles. Join Colson, Jack, and Ben ‘On The Sofa,’ as they share insights from their world.” It adds, “Whether it’s what they’ve been watching or up to, these three best mates come together to give their unique take.”

In a new clip from the podcast’s Instagram, the actors respond to a fan’s question about what’s really in those Rovers Return pints and wine glasses. Jack shared that back in the early 2000s, they used shandy bass or Kaliber as beer substitutes. Ben recalled, “In the first version of Corrie, Rovers served real beer, but now…” and Jack finished, “It’s all alcohol-free beer now.”

Colson mentioned that for beer, they often use sparkling water in bottles. As for wine, Jack added, “White wine is usually apple juice, while red wine is often blackcurrant.” Ben chimed in, “I served non-alcoholic red wine today in the Bistro for some of the older characters.”

Ben previously shared that one Coronation Street actor stood out for his convincing portrayal of drunkenness, thanks to a clever trick. Ben explained, “I’ve done a lot of scenes with Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoyne, where Nick helps him in and out of dangerous situations while he’s playing drunk. Chris would spin around before the take to make himself dizzy, then stumble through the scene. It looked like he was drunk, but he was just dizzy.”

This comes after Ben and Colson recently declared Jack as a ‘Corrie legend’ during the cast’s photo day earlier this month. It marked the first group photo in a decade, with the full cast, young actors, and even on-screen pets. The last one was reportedly taken in 2014 to celebrate the show’s move to the MediaCity set.

Discussing the photo session on their podcast, Ben said, “There’s a front row for legends—60-plus years of Corrie history. Then there’s the second row, and then the rest.” When Ben arrived, he initially thought he was in the front row but soon realized he was second row. Then he saw Jack front and center. Ben recalled, “I told Jack, ‘You’re on the front row!’ He just laughed and said, ‘F**k off!’ He’d made it—legend status!”
