oday’s Young and the Restless recap airs in the USA on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, and airs one day ahead in Canada. We post our Y&R recaps every weekday
Last EpisodeThe Genoa City Athletic Club (GCAC)
Audra sits in the dining room on an overstuffed chair, talking on the phone. She asks the person she’s talking with to meet for dinner, and they can vent about Kyle. The person lets her know that Kyle promoted
Spencer, which Audra agrees is good for Glissade. The caller disconnects and Audra is left disappointed.
Jack walks in, and Audra spots him. She asks if he has a minute to talk, and he begs off until she tells him she has some information that could be of use to him.
Adam walks into his father’s office and tells Victor that Newman Media has outperformed the competition, and it’s making good money.
Victor says that’s proof that putting Adam in charge was a good idea.
Adam isn’t sure Nikki and Victoria agree. He asks what Victor wants to discuss.
Victor says there’s an assignment that he only trusts Adam to carry out.
Adam asks where Victor wants him to direct his “ruthlessness” this time.
Phyllis pokes her head in Billy’s office.
Billy apologizes that she had to hear Jill talk about her like that.
Phyllis shrugs. She knows Jill isn’t her biggest fan, but Jill calling her her own worst enemy wasn’t called for! She says she’s in a sensitive mood… How bad was it?
Billy says he doesn’t want to get into it; it was a private conversation that Phyllis wasn’t meant to hear.
Phyllis says they’re partners; they’re in this together. What prompted the call?
Billy says Lily prompted the call. He admits that he hasn’t told his mom everything that’s happened at the company for reasons he won’t get into, but Lily took it as an opportunity to make him look like a backstabbing villain.
Phyllis asks if Jill was aware that Lily was plotting Billy’s demise the whole time.
Billy says he told her, but Jill thinks that wasn’t Lily’s intention and that Billy was overreacting.
Phyllis can’t believe she’d take Lily’s side; she’d never do that to her own son!
Billy says Jill isn’t happy that Chance left the company and rejoined the police force, either. Jill sees Chance as an asset who’s no longer working there.
Phyllis says she’s an asset, and she’s at the company! Jill will just have to learn to deal with it, no matter how she feels about it.
Billy shakes his head. He says Jill gave him an ultimatum; he has until Abby and Devon’s wedding to undo all the “mistakes” he’s made… And in Jill’s eyes, aside from firing Lily, Phyllis is his second biggest mistake.
Phyllis laughs. “Wow.” She thinks Jill will have to suck it up… What is Billy going to do; fire her? Billy doesn’t respond, and she asks again, “Are you going to fire me?”
Daniel’s Apartment
Chance looks over the bloody towels and confirms to Daniel that it’s definitely blood on them. He asks if Daniel knows where it came from or why it’s in the cabinet.
Daniel shakes his head. “No idea.” He asks if Chance can think of a reason it’s there.
Chance says there’s no need to panic; they’ll have the blood analyzed and find out whose it is.
Daniel wonders why bloody towels were thrown in the cabinet in the first place… Why not throw them in the wash? If you’re trying to hide them, they could have been thrown in the trash!
Chance nods. It appears whoever left the towels there was in a hurry. He asks if Daniel is sure this is Heather’s phone.
Daniel agrees and says it’s Heather’s cover on the phone. He says the texts that were sent to him came from the phone… How did it get back inside his apartment?
Chance asks if he knows the passcode, and Daniel says he does. Chance says they need to handle the phone down at headquarters.
Daniel asks him if he’s serious. They just phone Heather’s phone and bloody towels in a cabinet in his apartment… He’s a bit rattled, and wants to know why Chance won’t let him into the phone so they can find any clues.
Chance says he has to follow police procedure.
Daniel says to tell the police that he found the phone first… There’s no need to wait for the police to unlock the phone, when he could do it himself right now!
Chance asks him for the passcode.
Daniel tells him it’s 1692, but when Chance tries that, it doesn’t work. Daniel says they know each other’s passcodes so they could get into the phone in an emergency.
Chance shrugs. “No dice.”
Newman Enterprises
Victor tells Adam he not only appreciates his ruthlessness, but his intelligence and business savvy. He really appreciates Adam’s family loyalty.
Adam asks him for “today’s assignment.”
Victor tells him to use Newman Media to create buzz about the goings-on in the Abbott-Chanceller corporate suite.
Adam asks if they’re making up anything or whether it’s based on fact.
Victor says nothing needs to be manufactured; the firings at Abbott-Chancellor have become commonplace in a once-proud company.
Adam figures Lily Winters must have been fired.
Victor acknowledges that Lily was fired, and says Chance Chancellor was fired, too. Chance decided he’d rather put his life on the line than work for the “chaotic” Billy Abbott.
Adam says that chaos certainly is Billy’s leadership style.
Victor nods. They need to stop Billy before he ruins Katherine Chancellor’s legacy! He tells Adam not to go after Lily or Chance, though… Only Billy. He reminds Adam that he was once reluctant to go after Billy; hopefully things have changed.
Adam says that he didn’t want to go after Billy before because of Chelsea, but things have changed; Billy is officially fair game again!
Abbott-Chancellor
Billy tells Phyllis that his job and everything he’s worked for is in jeopardy, and he can’t worry about her.
Phyllis can’t believe Jill’s asking him to get rid of her… It’s like a knife in her back! She thinks Billy is kowtowing to Jill.
Billy doesn’t like it any more than Phyllis does.
Phyllis tells him not to fire her… Jill doesn’t know how well they work together! She had Billy’s back when everyone else was jumping ship because of Lily’s firing.
Billy says he explained it to his mom, but she’s not hearing it. He says it’s the only way to get his mom off his back. If he doesn’t fire her, he loses everything. Jill will rip control away from him and take the company back, and then both of them will be out on the streets!
Phyllis and Billy sit down. Phyllis can’t believe that Jill would take away the company so quickly… He’s barely had a chance to get it running!
Billy says Jill owns the company; he doesn’t. Ultimately, Jill says who stays or who goes.
Phyllis says if he fires her, this will be the third high-ranking dismissal this month from the company… The press will care, thinking that Billy is someone who can’t control his staff, or worse, that he’s “mommy’s puppet.”
Billy doesn’t see another way around it.
Phyllis says he’s going to punish loyalty by firing her and then reward betrayal by bringing Lily back on board.
Billy says that’s not going to happen… He has to fire Phyllis, but he won’t rehire Lily after what she did to him and the company.
Phyllis asks what if there was another option… A way that would guarantee that Billy held onto everything.
Newman Enterprises
Victor tells Adam to get the hit piece out on Billy Abbott as soon as possible. He’s to make it look like Billy is completely out of control.
Adam thinks that’ll be a piece of cake; anything else?
Victor nods. He wants Adam to use Newman Media to smooth over Audra Charles’s exit from Glissade.
The GCAC Dining Room
Jack and Audra sit down at a table in the dining room. He asks Audra what type of information she has that might help him.
Audra says before they get into it, she wants to clear the air about their past rivalry.
Jack says “rivalry” is a kind way of talking about the chaos she and Tucker tried to cause to his business.
Audra says it was a huge mistake to align herself with Tucker, and she’ll be regretting it for a long time.
Jack says she’s not the first intelligent person to fall for that scam artist.
Audra thanks him for saying that. She tells Jack she’s never held any animosity toward him or Diane, though Diane has made it clear she has no use for Audra.
Jack says he and Diane aren’t exactly in sync these days.
Audra isn’t surprised. She saw what happened between them at Society.
Jack apologizes. He’s sorry anyone had to see that “unpleasant display.”
Audra figures that the main source of their conflict was Kyle, which she assumes brings Kyle great pleasure.
Jack hopes she’s wrong about that.
Audra says he’s a devoted father, given his son’s ingratitude.
Jack says she’s making a second dig at Kyle. He suggests they skip the small talk; tell him exactly what she’s after!
Daniel’s Apartment
Chance wonders why Heather’s phone isn’t unlocking with the password that Daniel gave him.
Daniel isn’t sure… Maybe Heather changed it and didn’t tell him.
Chance says he’ll take it to the station, where they’ll be able to bypass the code.
Daniel says he might know a way to get in… He has all of Heather’s information on file; he should be able to request a passcode change through their phone account! He grabs his tablet and taps into their account, makes the change, and waits for the two-step verification.
Chance asks Daniel if he’s heard the phone ring or notify before now.
Daniel says he’s been texting and phoning it non-stop… You’d think he’d have heard it at least once!
Chance nods. “Unless it wasn’t here the whole time.”
Daniel asks if Chance thinks someone brought the phone back to the apartment recently.
Chance shrugs. Maybe.
Daniel says nobody else has been in the apartment other than Chance, Phyllis, and Lucy. His tablet pings with the two-step notification, and he tells Chance that the phone should unlock now with the passcode of 1234.
Chance nods. He’s in!
Newman Enterprises
Adam tells his father that he assumes that he’s to smooth over Audra’s departure so that there aren’t any “clickbait headlines” that reveal the real story that Audra was unceremoniously booted from the company without any reason.
Victor shrugs. There’s always a reason!
Adam asks if his father is worried that Audra will retaliate and name him as Glissade’s secret investor.
Victor doesn’t think Audra will violate the non-disclosure agreement.
Adam wouldn’t trust someone who was fired without cause to honor any agreement.
Victor’s not worried. He tells Adam to spin it as a “mutual parting of the ways.”
Adam thinks that there’s as much chaos in Glissade’s c-suite as there is at Abbott-Chancellor.
Victor says there’s not… Not since he put Kyle Abbott in charge… Glissade will be successful now.
Adam thinks Victor is putting a lot of faith into someone without much experience.
Victor says Kyle is very capable and is coming into his own; he just needed the right mentor!
Adam asks if Victor is implying that Jack isn’t a good mentor.
Victor says he didn’t mention Jack.
The GCAC Dining Room
Audra asks Jack why it’s hard to believe that she’s not after anything.
Jack grins and says her reputation precedes her. He knows she was fired from Glissade, but his son is still there. Seems to him that’s a good reason for her to want some payback.
Audra asks how much Jack knows about her termination.
Jack says he only knows that Kyle wasn’t comfortable working with her.
Audra grins and says that was only because she outranked Kyle on every level, which is why he manipulated the situation and got her fired, even though she’s the one who made Glissade what it is today.
Jack hopes she doesn’t think he’ll be able to get her job back. He and Kyle are barely on speaking terms!
Audra says it sounds like she’s not the only one that Kyle has betrayed lately.
Jack sighs… There she goes again, disparaging his son!
Audra says he conducts his business with honor and integrity; it must be hard to face that his son is lacking in both.
Jack says it’s funny that Audra would judge anyone after the stunts she pulled that Kyle witnessed.
Audra says he’s got it all wrong; she’s not the bad influence… Victor Newman is the silent investor behind Glissade, and he’s the one who’s been pulling Kyle’s strings all along.
Daniel’s Apartment
Daniel asks Chance if he’s seeing anything unusual in Heather’s phone… Any red flags?
Chance says he’s going through the calendar. He sees dentist appointments and shopping lists for Thanksgiving. “Cranberries, green beans, sweet potatoes.”
Daniel finishes the list. “Marshmallows.” Heather knew how much he loved that recipe. He says that they flipped a coin every year to see who would brine the turkey, and she won this year. He tears up.
Chance doesn’t see any outgoing calls. He sees the messages between the phone and Daniel… As well as an unsent text to Paul.
Daniel asks what it says.
Abbott-Chancellor
Billy tells Phyllis that whatever she says won’t change what has to happen.
Phyllis asks for a couple of minutes so she can pitch the whole idea to him.
Billy tells her to stop. He barely survived Lily backstabbing him, and now he’s got to prepare for Victor’s onslaught. He had the biggest acquisition the company has ever had stolen from him, and he has to appease his mom while doing right and holding onto the legacy the company has. He can’t continue to fight for Phyllis on top of everything else!
Phyllis says she’s not asking him to fight. He just needs to pretend to fire her in public so people can see it.
Billy says he can’t pretend to fire her. Jill will see that Phyllis is still on the payroll and that Lily isn’t.
Phyllis says she doesn’t need to be on the payroll… Pay her after they make the company a raging success together… Once they’re a success, his mother won’t take the company away, and then Phyllis will come out, take a bow, and Jill will see that Phyllis is part of the team and will see her in a whole new light.
Billy shrugs. He doesn’t know what to say except, “Sorry.”
Phylils tells him he can’t build the company without her. She begs him not to fire her and to hire Daniel. She says Daniel needs it; he’s drowning in his grief.
Billy says he’s sorry; he can see how upsetting this is for her. She has his sympathy, but maybe not working there is a good thing for her… She can focus on her son and herself.
Newman Enterprises
Adam asks his dad to confirm that the media blitz he’s asking him to enact aren’t about pumping up Glissade or getting Chancellor. He thinks his dad is waging battle on two fronts.
Victor says it’s about family business.
Adam nods. Victor wants Chancellor for Nikki. He tells Victor that firing Audra has something to do with Kyle, because Victor wants to stick it to Jack.
Victor says he wants Glissade to become successful by putting the right man at the helm.
Adam doesn’t believe him. He says he had one condition in coming back to Newman Media. He said he wouldn’t use his platform to go after Jack or his family.
Victor asks how this hurts Jack… Victor’s promoting one of his family; Kyle is finally getting the encouragement he deserves!
Adam says the encouragement should have come from Jack, not from Victor.
Victor says that Jack stood by while Diane threw their son out onto the streets.
Adam is sure there’s more to Kyle’s firing than they’re aware of.
Victor doesn’t give a damn; if Jabot collapses under Glissade’s success, so be it!
Adam shakes his head. He says Victor knows his conditions.
Victor says Adam knows his.
Adam leaves the office without another word.
Victor slams a file down on his desk.
In the lobby, Adam runs into Michael Baldwin.
Michael asks if it’s safe to go in.
Adam says he’d give it a minute. He asks Michael if he could help him… Let him know what Victor has planned for Glissade, Jabot, and Jack Abbott. He wants all the details!
The GCAC Dining Room
Audra sees that Jack isn’t surprised and asks if he already knew that Victor was Glissade’s silent investor.
Jack nods. He’d suspected so.
Audra says he must know that Victor brought Kyle on to work with her, too, which she was completely against. She says Kyle sabotaged her the first chance he got.
Jack’s not shocked, but it’s nice to know that what he suspected was true.
Audra says she can be more useful than that… She knows all the inner workings of Glissade; she poured her heart and soul into the company, and she wants the company back. She knows Jack wants his son back… Maybe they could make a deal!
Daniel’s Apartment
Daniel tells Chance he can’t hold out on him… Whatever he found in her phone, he can handle it!
Chance thinks it’s better for him to take the phone down to headquarters.
Daniel says the only reason he allowed Chance to search his house is because he wanted answers… If one of those answers is in the text Chance just read, he needs to hear it! He begs Chance. Even if Heather was having an affair, he needs to know… Not knowing is killing him.
Chance reads the message. “Hi dad, Lucy and I may need to come to Lisbon soon. Daniel and I have been fighting non-stop and it’s starting to scare me.”
Daniel shakes his head. That can’t be true; he and Heather weren’t fighting… What did she mean that he was scaring her?
Chance reads more. “Daniel’s issues are resurfacing and they seem even worse this time around.”
Daniel says that’s insane. He can’t imagine Heather saying that, nonetheless writing it to Paul or anyone! No matter how bad things were, he never gave her a reason to be scared of him; there’s got to be something else that explains why she wrote that message to her dad!
Chance tells him to calm down. He’s going to take the phone to forensics and they’ll find out more.
Daniel can’t believe it. Chance thinks that Heather was really afraid of him? He asks Chance if he thinks he’s a suspect now.
Newman Enterprises
Michael asks Adam if he’s kidding… He wants Michael to tell him what Victor’s planning?
Adam figures that Michael always knows what Victor is up to.
Michael laughs. Those days are over! Victor doesn’t tell him anything anymore.
Adam isn’t buying it; Michael knows more than he’s willing to admit.
Michael disagrees. He relates that he’s been in Victor’s bad books because of “an unfortunate incident” that he’s not allowed to talk about.
Adam is surprised… Michael really doesn’t know anything about Victor’s most recent plan that involves using Kyle as a weapon against Jack?
Michael says the only thing he knows is that Victor promoted Kyle to run Glissade.
Adam is incredulous… Didn’t Michael understand that Victor only did that to hurt Jack and Michael’s good friend, Diane?
Michael says Jack and Diane aren’t fools, and whatever Victor has planned for them, they’ll know how to deal with it.
Adam says Michael must be okay with Victor’s plan, then.
Michael says he doesn’t even know if Victor has a plan.
Adam shakes his head. He says Victor fired Audra just to elevate Kyle. It makes him think Victor is grooming Kyle, and not for a good purpose.
Michael thinks it’s possible that Victor really likes Kyle… After all, Kyle was his grandson-in-law. It’s not the first time that Victor has had a fatherly, protective attitude toward Kyle, after all.
Adam says that he knows from experience… Victor playing father-figure to someone is a double-edged sword.
Abbott-Chancellor
Phyllis tells Billy not to pretend to care about her… If he really cared about her, they wouldn’t be having this conversation!
Billy reiterates that he has sympathy for her situation. He thinks it’s best she focuses on her family and helps everyone get through their grief instead of stressing about work.
Phyllis says having this job forced her to focus on anything but grief. It forces her to see that life will go on, and it’ll do the same for Daniel, too!
Billy gets where she’s coming from, but this job isn’t the answer she’s looking for at this time.
Phyllis nods. Okay fine! She’ll just have to bypass him; she’ll go right to Jill and plead her case.
Billy doesn’t think it’ll work.
Phyllis says she’s going to talk to Jill woman-to-woman, face-to-face.
Billy reminds Phyllis that his mom can out-stubborn a brick wall.
Phyllis grins and tells him he’s underestimating her.
The GCAC Dining Room
Jack asks Audra what type of deal she’s proposing.
Audra says it’s more like an agreement… She’ll use her resources to get Kyle back where he belongs with Jack, and in return, he helps her get Glissade back.
Jack says he won’t bargain for his son, and he won’t take Audra’s side over Kyle’s.
Audra says that’s not what she’s asking for… She’ll help him get Kyle back on the right path, and she just wants what is rightfully hers.
Jack thanks her for the information she’s shared, but assures her he’ll handle Kyle and Victor on his own.
Audra says the information didn’t come without cost. She betrayed a confidence and violated her NDA.
Jack says she chose to do this.
Audra says she gambled everything she has because she trusted he’d be the honorable man he claims to be.
Jack shrugs. “This conversation is over.” He stands up.
Audra says she risked Victor’s wrath to help him; she’s entitled to something!
Jack tells her he’s got some sage advice for her: Walk away from this fight… She’ll never beat Victor, and he doubts she’ll ever run Glissade again. He leaves the club.
Audra clenches her jaw. “Watch me.”
Newman Enterprises
Adam tells Michael that by staying silent, he’s helping Victor hurt the people he cares about.
Michael says he’s not privy to Victor’s plans anymore.
Adam says that Michael’s working so hard to convince him of this, which only makes him think that Victor’s plan must be worse than he thought. He leaves Michael and heads back to his office.
Michael knocks on Victor’s door and enters the office. He tells Victor that he just had the most interesting conversation with Adam, who seems to be deeply concerned about Victor’s plans for Jack Abbott.
Victor asks if Michael gave anything away.
Michael says he didn’t have much to give, but Adam seemed to piece a few things together on his own.
Victor sighs. He doesn’t understand why Adam is showing any loyalty to someone like Jack Abbott.
Michael says maybe it’s simple compassion; Jack seems to be suffering these days… Quite publicly, too!
Victor makes a face. “Oh really? Awww.”
Michael laughs and says there may be another reason for Adam’s resistance… He thinks Adam thinks Victor is using him as an attack dog and feels exploited.
Victor says he is running a giant business and gave his son a powerful position… If his son fails to execute his duties, he’ll fire his ass!
Phyllis tells Billy she’s confident she can convince Jill she’s the only one who can help Billy take Abbott-Chancellor to the next level.
Billy says it’s a tall order.
