2 New Yellowstone Shows In Development As Report Clarifies Sequel & Spinoff Confusion

A new report clarifies the relationship between Michelle Pfeiffer’s Yellowstone spinoff and the previously reported sequel series. The ever-

evolving neo-Western franchise from Taylor Sheridan is focused on wrapping up the flagship project this November. However, beyond the end

of John Dutton III and his story arc, the universe will thrive thanks to several Yellowstone spinoffs. Some offshoots are already well-

established, but Sheridan has a few more projects in the works, including one that will reportedly bring in Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, and Patrick J. Adams.

Per Matthew Belloni’s latest What I’m Hearing newsletter from Puck, Pfeiffer’s new show tentatively titled The Madison is separate from the sequel series that will supposedly bring back some of John Dutton III’s children — Kayce and Beth Dutton, as well as Rip Wheeler. A report yesterday conflated the two, which Belloni attributes to Pfeiffer having once been considered for a role in the sequel alongside Matthew McConaughey, who now is also reportedly unlikely to be involved. And while The Madison will likely be part of the Yellowstone universe, this update claims that isn’t yet guaranteed.

Why Yellowstone’s Sequel Series Is Better Separated From Michelle Pfeiffer’s Spinoff

John Dutton III’s Kids Deserve Their Own Show

The sequel is supposedly going to pick up where the main show will end. Currently, there’s a wait for the final remaining episodes of the series, with Yellowstone season 5 part 2 set to premiere this November. Despite the extended break between new outings in the hopes that Kevin Costner and Sheridan would be able to resolve their conflict, leading to John’s return, that is, unfortunately, not going to happen. This means that, aside from wrapping up Yellowstone and the modern Duttons’ story, season 5b also needs to find a justified explanation for the family’s patriarch’s absence moving forward.

The young Duttons still have so many stories left to tell in the Yellowstone sequel.

Whatever happens in Yellowstone, it’s for the best that the sequel is separated from The Madison. Based on what’s known about the cast thus far, it’s difficult to imagine how all the reported characters can exist in one show without it feeling cramped. The young Duttons still have so many stories left to tell in the Yellowstone sequel. As great as Costner was as John, being able to move forward and spearhead their own show will give their respective characters more time under the spotlight. On the other hand, it will also allow for The Madison to thrive on its own.

How this all shakes out will be formally revealed in the next few months. At this point, it’s understandable that Sheridan is busy wrapping up Yellowstone, which is still in production for its final run in the fall. After that, he and the people involved can talk more about the future of the franchise. Perhaps by then, The Madison will also have a confirmed cast.
