Coronation Street’s Peter Ash said his exit “hasn’t sunk in yet”, with his character Paul Foreman sadly
dying on the ITV soap next week. A year on from Paul being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, his
family face turmoil next week as he passes away. With his health continuing to decline in recent months,
Paul and his family knew he did not have long to live.
Monday’s sad episode next week will see Paul die in heartbreaking scenes, with his partner Billy Mayhew facing a race against time to be there by his side. Paul’s mum Bernie and stepdaughter Summer will do everything they can to keep Paul alive while Billy is absent.
Sadly he will pass away after being rushed to hospital, after he’s found unresponsive and struggling to breathe. Whether Billy will make it in time is yet to be revealed, but the hour-long special episode will no doubt leave fans in tears.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press about the episode and Paul’s heartbreaking death, actor Peter who plays him confessed it hadn’t sunk in that Paul’s time on the show was over. He confessed the “hardest” part about filming his final scenes, and how he felt watching the tragic moments back.

He explained: “It was hard to not get emotional during the final scene with all the beautiful goodbyes and to pretend not to hear it pretty much. When he does pass, trying not to breathe at all [was] tricky after a while but it is a beautiful scene and a beautiful way to end it, without giving anything away.
“It was great to have all my favourites there for my last scene.” He went on: “It’s not sunk in for me yet, I’ve still been in the building and I see Dan, Jane and everyone. I said it probably wouldn’t sink in until I’d seen my final episode. You’ll have to ask me in a few days.
“It was very odd watching it. I’ve never played a TV character who has died, so that was a strange one but I’m sure it will start to kick in now. It was very odd. We rarely see episodes before they air, but it was really odd.”
