Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment has reassured fans who thought he would be exiting the show.
The actor, 43, appeared as Darren in BBC sitcom The Royle Family before landing his Kirk Sutherland
role in 2000, projecting him into the living rooms of millions each teatime.
Kirk was introduced as the brother of established character Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), with Andy taking over the part from an uncredited walk-on actor who appeared earlier in the year when her then-boyfriend Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) had concerns that she was seeing another man.
Throughout the 2000s, we saw him form a relationship with Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) and create a sweet brotherly bond with her brother Chesney (Sam Aston), before eventually settling down with gobby knicker-stitcher Beth Tinker (Lisa George) 11 years ago.
The pair eventually married in 2015, in a spectacular 80s themed event that saw them dress up as Adam Ant and Madonna, but it was soon revealed that she was a bigamist.
Upcoming scenes will forced to call time on her Weatherfield life, after being blackmailed by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
As fans know, Beth has found herself on the wrong side of bent copper Kit after capturing video footage of him in cahoots with a bloke she’d been manufacturing counterfeit t-shirts for.
During an interview on This Morning, Lisa confirmed that her exit scenes will air during tomorrow’s episode.
Now, soap fans have become worried that Andy will follow suit, after he uploaded a video of him singing Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire at a local festival.
His followers were quick to jump onto the comments section, with one saying: ‘Leaving Corrie to pursue a music career are we now,’ to which Andy replied: ‘Absolutely not Corrie my number 1 but enjoying singing the odd song here and there.’
Co-star Tony Maudsley, who plays funeral director George Shuttleworth, wrote: ‘You little ROCK STAR!!! LOVE IT!!!!’
EastEnders’ Lauren Branning star Jacqueline Jossa added: ‘I love this!!!!! Amazing.’
