Merry Christmas Coronation Street introduces new character Peggy Brown, an aspiring actor who arrives on the cobbles for a panto role at the Weatherfield Majestic Theatre.
Peggy becomes fast friends with iconic character Elsie Tanner, though she’s not aware that Elsie’s latest boyfriend is involved in the criminal underworld.
The two women soon find themselves in enough trouble that their holiday season — and possibly the rest of their lives — could be ruined.
All of the books in this prequel collection are written by Maggie Sullivan, who has crafted a warm and loving tribute to Coronation Street‘s legacy through these stories.
Each of Maggie’s books takes place before the events of the first-ever Coronation Street episode in 1960 as a way to fill in the backstories of the Barlows, the Walkers and the Grimshaws.
The most recent novel in the series, A Celebration on Coronation Street, set Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation against the backdrop of trouble at the Rovers for Annie Walker and her son Billy.

The sixth novel also revealed the history of Weatherfield’s Corner Shop, which is now owned by Dev Alahan in the ITV1 series. The shop played a key role in the early days of Coronation Street as owner Elsie Lappin memorably sold it to Florrie Lindley.
