Violet Carson.
Carson famously played Ena Sharples on the soap from its inception in 1960, making her one of Corrie‘s
original cast members. She went on to play the role for another two decades, eventually exiting in 1980
before her death at the age of 85 three years later.
Hazlegrove, who currently plays Bernie Winters on Corrie, took to Instagram this week to share her admiration for the actor with a sweet photo.

Hazelgrove can be seen posing in front of a photo of Carson as Ena, while sporting a T-shirt with the soap legend’s face on it.
“Violet Carson… above my head and on my chest! What an inspiring woman, both as an actor and as a character,” she captioned the post. “Here’s to the Corrie battleaxes… may we battle on!”

Peter Ash, who plays Hazlegrove’s on-screen son Paul Foreman, shared praise for both actors by commenting on the post: “Two legends! Xx”
However, Hazlegrove remained modest, adding: “She is! I’m still a work in progress, son!!”
Next week, Corrie will air a special, single-strand episode that will focus on the progression of Paul’s motor neurone disease (MND).
The special will be told through Paul’s perspective as he struggles to communicate after receiving some life-changing news.
As a result, Billy plans a special day where he will take Paul out of the house one last time.
