EastEnders has once again aired a topical scene following England’s loss in the Euro 2024 final.
This special scene was inserted into BBC One’s airing of EastEnders on Monday (July 15) where football
super-fans Martin Fowler and Harvey Monroe were understandably dejected.
The duo were in gloomy spirits over Spain pulling out a 2-1 win over England at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday (July 14), especially after Alfie Moon turned up to needle them both.

Harvey confessed that his girlfriend Jean Slater “actually cried” over the loss and then spent the rest of the night knitting a scarf for England manager Gareth Southgate.
“[The scarf] says, ‘You’re still a winner in my eyes’,” Harvey explained.
Alfie tried to convince the pair to cheer up since England defied the odds by making the final, though Martin admitted he wanted to “wallow” for a while.
As he walked off, Alfie revealed that he’d already placed his best for England to win the World Cup in 2026.

The downcast tone of the topical scene was markedly different than one inserted in last Thursday’s episode where Martin and Harvey were certain football was coming home in the Euro 2024 final.
EastEnders has a long tradition of including topical scenes as last-minute additions to its episodes, having done so twice already this month.
Ahead of the general election on July 4, the soap aired a newly-filmed scene where Ian Beale bantered with Harvey about the big day.
Elsewhere, it was a very eventful episode on Monday as Cindy Beale came face-to-face with the returning Jane Beale for the first time ever as part of the cliffhanger.
