The actor, along with his wife and their young daughter, stopped off in the French countryside as part of their idyllic retreat.
Sharing a series of vlogs on social media, James highlighted the charm and tranquility of their getaway to Troyes.
One of his highlights of the trip was a dinner date with his wife in the renowned Champagne region.
Once their little girl (aptly named Summer) fell asleep, the married couple finally found themselves able to enjoy a rare romantic meal.
James’s wife Ali told followers: “After the easiest journey we had the audacity to think we could walk our little one to sleep in the buggy while we toured the town, and then have a rare dinner just the two of us chatting without chasing a two year old around between each bite.
“But our little one had other ideas – ‘I’m not tireeddddd’.
“Two hours later and we knew Troyes like the backs of our hands, the restaurants were all closing or taking last orders and we couldn’t find anywhere to eat.
“We walked past a dominos and thought grimly to ourselves, ‘we just can’t do it! We’re in France for God’s sake!’
“So we persevered. Another lap of the square, a few more ‘moon river’s (her lullaby du jour) and she drifted off… We did it!
“Yes we were eating at 10pm, yes it was dark, yes we were exhausted and had passed the point of hunger, but we were having a dinner date with our sleeping baby, plotting our next steps with our beautiful crazy girl!”

The Farrar family also visited historical sites, going for a stroll around the charming medieval Old Town which Ali compared to the quaint village in Beauty & the Beast.
EastEnders fans flocked to the comments to congratulate the parents on managing to travel with a toddler in tow.
One person gushed: “Aww how lovely look forward to seeing your adventures! Have a wonderful time all.”
Another added knowingly: “Aaah traveling with a little one! I know it well!!
“May you have lots of sweet naps and smooth days! We have a town in Tuscany that we formed community in, our kids even ended up enrolling in school there! So let me know which part of Tuscany you’re headed!!”
