EastEnders Soap Scoop! Jasmine on trial

EastEnders star Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness has confirmed that there will be a late twist in the trial of Jasmine Fisher, with one beloved character potentially altering the course of events.
Jasmine is currently behind bars following the murder of Anthony Trueman, which she has subsequently claimed was committed in self-defence. With the Slaters also having a keen interest in proceedings, Jasmine’s arc has divided opinion.

With the trial set to take place in next week’s scenes, it remains to be seen if Jasmine will be found guilty of the highest charge of murder, and Donaldson-Holness – who portrays the character – has shared that her character will be fearing the worst.
“She’s terrified because she’s facing the possibility of either spending a long time in prison or being found innocent and released; both outcomes feel scary to her in their own right,” said the actor.
“She knows the truth about what happened and hopes others will believe her, but past experiences have taught her to be wary of hope. Even though there’s a small glimmer of it, she’s bracing herself for the worst-case scenario.

“She can either face the situation head‑on and take the stand in court, or plead guilty and accept whatever happens. She’s caught between doing what she’s always done – avoiding the problem and dealing with whatever follows or face the truth head on.”
While Jasmine does her best to prepare for all eventualities, she gets a shock during the trial when Patrick Trueman – her grandfather and Anthony’s father – sends in a video statement, which was recorded prior to his visit to Trinidad.

“At this stage, anyone’s opinion could completely shift how others see her, given her history of lying and what she did to Zoe,” explained the star, who debuted as Jasmine in September.
“Patrick is not only the father of the man that she murdered, but he’s also Jasmine’s grandfather, so she fears anything that he says carries enormous weight and has a significant impact.”
It’s not the only surprise that Jasmine gets in the midst of the trial, with the character being shocked at the arrival of her twin brother, Josh Goodwin, and his adoptive mother, Sandra, in Walford.
“It’s a huge shock for Jasmine because this is a part of life that she left behind as a child,” noted the actor. “For them to show up now, after so many years, feels like a nightmare. Sandra and Josh will have their own memories and opinions about what happened.
“This worries Jasmine as she has no idea what they’ll be saying back in Walford. Their words could seriously damage her relationships with both sides of her family, who are still trying to figure out how they feel about her.”
To intensify matters even further, Josh intends to visit his sister in prison, with Jasmine immediately being “filled with fear and anxiety” at the prospect of seeing her twin after so many years apart.
“She can’t predict how things will unfold,” said the star. “Seeing him face-to-face again makes her realise just how long they have been separated for, and their reunion is overwhelming. She also worries that history might repeat itself.
“Zoe missed her visitation because she was with Josh, and that makes Jasmine fear being pushed aside. In Jasmine’s mind, Josh could take what might have been her place in the family, as she hasn’t had the opportunity to build a relationship with Zoe yet.”
Either way, it is sure to be an eventful fortnight in Walford, and the BBC has already teased the potential outcome of the eagerly-awaited trial with some advanced spoilers. The question is – will Jasmine be found guilty?
