Coronation Street has confirmed a major slip-up from Maggie Driscoll tonight, in her quest to hide her son Benâs true paternity. In a fiery showdown, Maggie accidentally revealed that her late husband Alan is not Benâs flesh and blood. Is the cat finally out of the bag?
Viewers know that Maggie had an affair with the recently deceased Jim McDonald, back in the â80s. While Ben grew up believing Alan was his dad, it was confirmed that he is actually Jimâs biological son.
Maggie has gone to great lengths to keep the information from Ben, even meddling in his friendship with Jimâs son Steve. But the latest instalment of the soap saw her blurt out the truth, leaving Ben questioning his entire upbringing.
In tonightâs episode, Maggie cornered her grandson Will and demanded he tell her the truth about his ârelationshipâ with groomer Megan Walsh. Will maintained that he simply had a crush on the sports coach and that Meganâs baby wasnât his.
Though Maggie tried to gently coax him into opening up, she soon became frustrated by his reluctance and branded him âone stupid boy in a long line of stupid boysâ. Her outburst was interrupted by Ben and Eva who were horrified by her approach.
âYouâve no idea, do you? You never knew Alan. You were a child. You have no idea what kind of man he was, and yet here you are, taking his side over mine. Your own flesh and blood!â fumed Maggie, before realising what sheâd said.
She tried to brush off the revelation, claiming she was âconfusedâ by his cruel words, but Ben questioned exactly what she meant. Later, Ben shared his suspicions with Eva, who suggested Maggie was simply hurt and lashing out.
âShe was making a point, though. She insinuated my dadâs not my biological dad,â said Ben, before he eventually agreed with Evaâs theory.
However, as the scene ended, it was clear that Ben wasnât convinced by Maggieâs explanation, and next weekâs episodes will see him trying to get answers from his scheming mum.
