There’s an emotional reunion on the cards in EastEnders next week as Jean Slater returns to Walford, but things are far from simple when it comes to her strained relationship with Zoe Slater.
The Slater family have been through plenty of drama recently, and Jean’s return brings unresolved tension bubbling straight back to the surface.
When Jean arrives back in Albert Square, it quickly becomes clear that there is still plenty of awkwardness between her and Zoe. The pair have been at odds ever since Zoe wrongly suspected Jean of being the person who had been stalking her, an accusation that caused serious damage to their relationship.
Jean also blamed Zoe for Stacey’s departure to Brazil after she caught Zoe and Max cosying up to one another.

At the height of the drama, Zoe was convinced that Jean was behind the disturbing messages and behaviour she had been experiencing. The suspicion shocked Jean and deeply hurt her, especially as she felt her family had turned on her.
Although the truth eventually came out, the fallout left things strained between them, and the tension has lingered ever since.
Next week’s episodes see that distance still very much present when Jean returns to Walford. Despite being back among her family, the atmosphere between her and Zoe remains uncomfortable, with both women unsure how to move forward after everything that has happened.
However, things begin to shift after Jean overhears an emotional phone call between Zoe and Kat Slater. During the conversation, Zoe opens up about how she’s feeling, and it becomes clear that the situation has been weighing heavily on her.
Listening nearby, Jean realises that Zoe is still struggling and that the ongoing tension between them isn’t helping anyone.

Not wanting the feud to drag on any longer, Jean begins to reconsider how she’s been approaching the situation. With a little encouragement from Alfie Moon, she decides it might be time to make the first move.
Determined to try and repair the damage, Jean reaches out to Zoe and offers an olive branch in the hope that they can finally move forward.
It’s a big step for Jean, especially after the hurt caused by Zoe’s actions, but she ultimately decides that holding onto the conflict isn’t worth it if it means losing her relationship with her loved onese
