EastEnders welcomed back Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) tonight (10 March) after a month away from Albert Square. The Queen Vic landlord had been visiting his brother Spencer in Australia after finding out he was struggling with his mental health.
Upon his return to The Vic, Alfie was able to offer comfort to someone else who has been struggling – Sam Mitchell – who is going through radiotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Last month, Sam made the decision to stay in Walford to be closer to her family as she continues her cancer treatment, having previously planned to go back to Spain.
Tonight, Alfie was welcomed back by Zoe and Mo, before Sam entered the pub, having just undergone her latest round of radiotherapy.
Sam told Alfie she had started radiotherapy last week and he immediately empathised, having previously battled prostate cancer.

Alfie told her he knows what the side effects are like and asked how she was handling them. Sam replied that she was channeling her “inner Peggy”, referencing her late mother Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) who also battled the disease.

Sam then asked Alfie: “Does it get any easier?” To which he replied: “Sam, I ain’t going to lie to you but I think I know you well enough that you’ll be able to handle this”.
The pair then shared a hug before Sam went off to meet her son Ricky.
Alfie is yet to be reunited on-screen with wife Kat but the pair will definitely have a lot to catch up on with Jasmine having been charged with Anthony’s murder last month and a bombshell new arrival coming to the Square next week.
