Looking out for Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has perhaps been one of the most surprising parts of Graham Foster’s (Andrew Scarborough) return in Emmerdale.
The man pretended to be dead for six years and now, we’re beginning to see what impact that has had on Graham’s personality.
Still suave and sharp-tongued, yes, but we’ve seen in recent weeks that Graham has a skill fellow Home Farm resident Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) does not possess – the ability to see a situation from someone else’s perspective.
Because Joe is so driven by the want for more money, he doesn’t really care about the fact Cain is on the brink of a nervous breakdown because he’s got so much going on.
Graham knows about the nightmare Cain is facing right now with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) being in prison, but also knows about his prostate cancer diagnosis.
As a result, it’s actually made him feel quite sorry for the man he once called an enemy.
Refusing to play by Joe’s rules, Graham told Cain about his plan to sell some machinery from Butler’s Farm. While it didn’t prove Kim Tate’s (Claire King) theory that Graham was only back in the village for his own gain, it did confirm that the man won’t always do as Joe asks.
This coming week, Graham confesses to Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) that he knows about Cain’s diagnosis, which is what motivated him to play both sides in the Dingles vs Tates battle.
Meanwhile, Cain visits Moira in prison and tells her the cancer he said she didn’t need to worry about is actually a lot worse.
As her world falls apart, Moira struggles to hear that Cain has had his diagnosis for a month. She urges her husband to tell other family members, and is gutted to hear about the latest development with the farm.
Despite her upset, Moira is understanding and tells Cain that his health is far more important.
The next day, as she processes his latest masterplan to add Butler’s to the Tate empire, Kim makes it clear she isn’t impressed with Joe and his dirty tricks.
