Days Chad looks sadly at Julie, tears in his eyes as they sit on the Horton couch

Alex and Stephanie score the Honeymoon Suite at the Salem Inn, marveling at it being open for them. Do a lot of people honeymoon in Salem? Is this really that big of a problem? They clearly got ripped off, though, because the suite is just a normal Inn room.

Alex has petals all laid out and a romantic plan in place, but they throw it all to the wind and go straight to the fun stuff. When they finish, they bask in each other’s glow — Well, some kind of glow — and head out to dinner at the Bistro. After removing their rings, of course, to keep up the ruse for Jeremy.

Valentine’s Days Past

Steve and Kayla enjoy a date night in the Bistro, reminiscing about their Valentine’s wedding night with a flashback to, well, not that long ago. Steve feels better about not watching Stephanie since Jada will be with her all night. About that…

Jack and Jennifer show up for dessert and join them, asking the Johnsons to check in on Julie while everyone’s gone. Steve takes note about Jeremy leaving and things get a bit chilly over whether he’s guilty or not. But moving on! Safe travels, happy anniversary, love and all that. Jack and Jen leave, so the Johnsons get back to their V-Day.

Out in the square, Jack, Jen and Jeremy all run into each other and the couple assures him that the Hortons believe in him. Then they flash back to Jennifer’s Valentine’s Day proposal to Jack, which is further than the Johnson’s Valentine’s flashback!

Chad Says Goodbye

Thomas helps Jeremy carry everything out to the car as they get ready to skip Salem, and Julie hands out chocolate chip cookies for all.

Chad, meanwhile, brings some roses to Abigail’s grave (which is still empty) and has a heart-to-heart about how their kids are growing and how much he’s trying to do right by them. “I still miss you every single day.” Chad promises to take a piece of her and Salem no matter where he goes. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Abby. Goodbye. For now.” Since this is Billy Flynn’s farewell, it takes on a whole different meaning.

The Hortons Part Ways

Chad gets home to have a talk with Thomas, who’s sad, thinking about his mom a lot, then Julie pops back in to go over the road trip, from Lincoln’s cabin to the Grand Canyon.

When Thomas goes to finish packing, Julie has her goodbye moment with Chad, crying like she’ll never see him again. (But again, this goodbye isn’t for Chad.) He gets all emotional thanking Julie for opening her home and heart to him and the kids.

And finally, Jack and Jennifer return to wish Chad a good trip with his family. Jack has enough self-awareness to realize they may have made Chad’s life miserable this past year, but hey, they all worked it out!

Stephanie Shares the Wedding News

Jeremy sees Alex twirling Stephanie in the square and gets all upset thinking back to the last time Alex got in his face. He sits down and reads a note to Stephanie with more than a little bitterness about how he’s going to prove to her that he’s not an obsessive stalker, and congrats on the engagement.

Inside the Bistro, Stephanie nervously breaks the news to her parents. “We went to Chicago!” And, um, eloped. So much for Steve and Kayla being romantics. They just stare at the kids and Alex and Stephanie hurry to reassure them that they can still do a big wedding and they’re so sorry and — the Johnsons burst out laughing and tell them how happy they are.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Julie, Jack and Jennifer say goodbye to Thomas and Charlotte and Chad sends them up to bed for Julie to read a chapter of Alice In Wonderland. The remaining three say their own farewells and Chad hugs it out with Jen and Jack. Alone, Chad looks around the living room, stops at his and Abigail’s wedding photo and hugs it, teary-eyed. He turns out the light and walks upstairs.
