Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has shared an emotional personal tribute as she remembered her grandmother, five years after her death.

Fans best know the actress for playing Lauren Bolton in the ITV soap. The character made her first appearance in Weatherfield back in 2022, alongside her evil dad, Reece Bolton, who was a member of Griff Reynolds’ far-right gang.

Then, months after being involved in Max Turner’s far-right storyline, Lauren was thrown into turmoil as she was abused by solicitor Joel Deering as part of a shock grooming storyline, which led to her going missing and being presumed dead.

When Lauren returned to the cobbles, the trauma continued, this time with her son, Frankie, who, after being born early, was given the devastating diagnosis of aplastic anaemia, all while she was charged with the murder of Joel, before being cleared by a jury.

The teen has since tried to rebuild her life in Weatherfield alongside her son, Frankie, with the help of the likes of Roy Cropper and Carla Connor, who agreed for Rovers Return manager Glenda Shuttleworth to give her a chance behind the bar.

When making her Corrie debut, Cait told the Manchester Evening News: “I auditioned for Corrie for so many years but I never really got anywhere and I was always told ‘you’re time will come’ and when I got this tape through [for Lauren], I had that feeling. I was just like, ‘There’s something about this. I need to get this!’

I went in for the audition and I got it. It just shows if you fight hard and work hard for your dreams you can achieve.”

Now, the soap star has opened up about the devastating loss she faced prior to joining the long-running show. Taking to her Instagram Stories on Thursday (September 4), she shared a picture of her Gran that was in a frame and said: “5 years ago today, I was told you had gained your angel wings.

“Due to Covid restrictions, I was unable to be with you as you fell asleep for the last time. I miss you angel.”

She continued to share more pictures, icluding of them together, and said: “So much has changed, but the amount of love and how much I miss you, not so much. Thank you for being my guardian, directing me on the right path on my journey, I am now living my dream, like you’d have wanted, like you always knew I would.”

Cait rounded off with another picture of her beloved grandparent and added: “Still from heaven, you’re still my No1 supporter, nothing has changed there. You really was one of a kind. Keep dancing up there. I love you, Gran.”
