Former EastEnders star Tony Discipline has revealed an exciting career milestone 12 years after departing the BBC One soap.
Soap enthusiasts will recall Tony, 36, as Tyler Moon, the wayward son of Eddie Moon, portrayed by David Essex, and nephew of Queen Vic landlord Alfie Moon (Shane Richie). He made quite the impression with Albert Square’s female residents when he arrived in 2011 and quickly established himself as a complex character.
Tyler was a budding boxer and younger sibling to local menace Michael (Steve John Shepherd). During one boxing bout that went awry, Tyler took multiple hits to the head and suffered a seizure.
Tyler enjoyed passionate but brief relationships with both Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), though he repeatedly struggled to maintain lasting romantic connections.
He was employed alongside his father at the neighbourhood antiques and second-hand goods store, and was frequently spotted socialising with his cherished brother Anthony (Matt Lapinskas), reports Plymouth Live.
Tyler departed Walford during the summer of 2013 to accompany his brother aboard a cruise liner. After leaving the BBC One drama, Tony embarked on a new path as a firefighter with the London Fire Brigade.
Via Instagram, Tony has now announced he’s operating a fire engine and attending emergency calls. Celebrating this significant professional achievement, Tony posted a photograph of himself positioned beside the vehicle, captioning it: “First Day as a Driver.”
While the actor appeared to relish his new profession, Tony had previously expressed his willingness to return to the soap should the opportunity present itself.
In a chat with Inside Soap back in 2017, he revealed: “When it was time to leave the show, I didn’t want to go; however, there were no more storylines for Tyler.
“The best thing to do was have him go off on that cruise, but it’s been a blimmin’ long holiday. I think it’s time he came back.”
He went on to say: “When I got the call for EastEnders, it was like winning the lottery. I was working at Billingsgate Fish Market in the day and going to acting classes at night.”
In addition to his firefighting duties, Tony has maintained his passion for performing. Last year, he took on the role of David Marsden in Doctors and portrayed Jimmy Cook in the 2020 series Murder in the Carpark.
Tony has also appeared in the films Birds and Dogs, Override, and The Drugs Game, with his latest role being Harry Lucchese in Dream Hacker.
