Former EastEnders star James Bye’s wife has revealed the ‘chaos’ of bringing their young children to a festival.
The former Martin Fowler actor has been married to his wife Victoria Bye since 2012, with the couple renewing their wedding vows back in 2023 at a lavish ceremony in St Lucia.
Together, James and Victoria, who met nearly two decades ago, share four young sons together; Edward, ten, Louis, eight, Hugo, five, and Rufus, one.
Fans of the family are often brought inside the ins and outs of the family’s hectic life on Life with the Byes, a family Instagram page run by Victoria.
James is travelling the country at the moment with his play Death Comes to Pemberley, where he plays the part of Mr Darcy.
Taking on the role famously played by Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen in the past, the play is PD James’s sequel to Jane Austen’s classic novel.
Despite the madness of touring, James, Victoria and their three kids headed to Camp Bestival Dorset over the weekend, where James read a bedtime story for CBeebies and was interviewed by his wife.
Taking to Instagram on Monday (August 11), Victoria revealed that their youngest child Rufus got sick while they were attending the annual Dorset event.
Sharing a series of photos, Victoria wrote: “Right, where to start with this one… Let’s just say Tom Jones, baby vom in the tent, Duggee hugs all round, and not only James but somehow ME ending up on stage – all in the same weekend!!
“Yep. Part two of our little UK mini tour… and honestly, it could only be @campbestival. Let me start at the beginning… So. After a few blissful days of peace in Cardiff, I picked up the boys, wedged 4 kids + 57 bags of camping gear into the car & headed straight for the festival.
“Camping at a festival with a toddler? Not for the faint-hearted. Add in unpredictable British weather, glitter everywhere, and the constant soundtrack of “I’m hungry” / “Where’s my wellies?” and you’ve got the full picture.”
She continued: “Night one? Baby decided to christen the tent with an impressive vomit. Morning two? Whilst cleaning sick out of my hair I got a last-minute tap on the shoulder asking me to interview my hubby @jimmybye on stage.
“Now to say I was bricking it was an understatement, plus I couldn’t find my bra – but what the hell, in for a penny and all that. Up I went. Totally unprepared and determined not to mention that he forgot bin day last week (a capital offence in our house ).
“And thankfully, the lovely crowd cheered me on like the seasoned pro I most definitely wasn’t (plus huge love to our mates who took it in their stride when we casually dropped 4 kids on them mid-festival).”
Stating that they ‘loved every minute’ of the experience, Victoria said that James ‘lived out his actual dream’ by getting to read a bedtime story.
“Plus in between the chaos, there were magic moments – like James living out his actual dream reading the bedtime story in the @cbeebieshq tent, all of us meeting Duggee & singing the ‘sticky sticky stick’ song (if you know, you know ). And seeing Sir Tom Jones himself belt out the hits as the sun went down…
“For a family who are not campers, we somehow winged the whole weekend. Rain, shine, soggy sleeping bags… and we were still smiling when it was time to pack up and head off to Bath for the next stop. Thanks @campbestival — as always, an absolute belter,” she said.
It’s been a manic period for the family since the death of Martin Fowler aired during EastEnders 40th anniversary live episode in February.
Having joined the soap back in 2014, taking over the role from James Alexandrou, James’ exit scenes saw Martin crushed by a steel beam following an explosion at the Queen Vic.
