Katherine Kelly, famed for appearing in Coronation Street, has opened up about her exciting new role in an upcoming drama for Channel 4.
The legendary actress, who starred as Becky McDonald on the ITV soap from 2006 and 2012, joined BBC presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo on The One Show today to speak about her new thriller.
In Fliht, which will leave you ‘on the edge of your seat’, sees Katherine take on the role of protagonist Jo Conran, a single mum and air hostess sucked into drug smuggling to protect her son.
Written and co-created by Marcella’s Mike Walden and Slow Horses’ Adam Randall, In Flight has been described as a “high-octane drama”.

Katherine said: “It’s a twisty, turny thriller. When I got the script, it’s such a brilliant page-turner, but at the heart of it, it’s about what lengths a parent would go to to save their child.”
Despite the show being set in multiple countries, the entire series was filmed in Belfast, which Katherine couldn’t stop gushing about.
“We shot it all in Belfast, which is amazing,” she said. “I can’t recommend it enough. For a start, you can’t get a bad meal in Belfast, let me tell you! It’s the most fantastic place!”

She went on to detail the struggles they had with filming during a storm, despite trying to maintain the illusion they were in Sunny Thailand.
“The puddles were just rising and rising and we’re all there in strappy tops and mojitos trying to make it look like we’re somewhere really sunny and it was so cold!” she revealed.
“But when you see that scene you wouldn’t know,” she added, “That was amazing.”
Other cast members joining Katherine for In Flight include Miss Scarlet’s Stuart Martin, The Fall’s Bronagh Waugh, Heartstopper’s Corinna Brown and Ted Lasso’s Ambreen Razia.

Elsewhere in the show, Katherine revealed her new role in the new upcoming Alan Partridge series from Steve Coogan.
“That is very exciting!” Clara enthused, “But what can you actually tell us about it?”

“Very little and I’m dying to tell you about it,” Katherine admitted. “But yes, needless to say I did fancy a bit of comedy after this one!
“I had the best time,” she confirmed, adding that the show is coming this Autumn.
