George Shuttleworth’s attempts to form a new romantic bond will go awry on Coronation Street as he finds his first date derailed.
The funeral director has been in a dampened mood in recent weeks following the departure of his partner Eileen Grimshaw, with the figure struggling to move on as his love interest left Weatherfield for Thailand
George has naturally been heartbroken since her exit, but scenes on Friday (8 August) will see his sister, Glenda, encourage him to move on with his life. Taking the bull by the horns, the pair set up a dating profile for him.
The fruits of their labour will come during next week’s scenes, with George showing off his new clothes to his sister as he prepares for a date with a lady called Samantha. Just as things look on the up, a twist occurs.
It turns out that Samantha and Glenda actually recognise each other from their days at primary school, with George subsequently taking a backseat as the old friends catch up with each other – is the date over already?
“This is the last thing George wanted for his first date since splitting from Eileen,” our Corrie source reveals. “George is often overshadowed by his outgoing sister, but during his own date really takes the biscuit! Can he get things back on track or is this match-up doomed from the start?”
George isn’t the only Weatherfield resident to be struggling in the love department, with Steve and Tracy McDonald currently being at loggerheads as they go through bitter divorce proceedings.
In next week’s scenes, Tracy will be unusually diplomatic as she urges Steve to think of their children throughout their divorce, Steve agrees, though their daughter Amy is initially sceptical of her mother’s softer attitude.
Her worries were justified as it is revealed that Tracy is concealing a document pertaining to the valuation of the florist shop, with the revelation causing uproar. A furious Steve moves out of the family home, and Tracy suspects that Amy leaked the information – what will happen next?
