A regular onCoronation Street is about to face the chop in a dramatic twist.
Earlier this year, Carl Webster (played by Jonathan Howard) was introduced to the ITV soap as the brother of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie (Sue Devaney).
After residing in Germany for several years, Carl returned to lend his support to Kevin, who had been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
However, in recent episodes, Kevin’s wife Abi (portrayed by Sally Carman) has been grappling with her feelings for her brother-in-law, who hasn’t shied away from pursuing her.
This deception stemmed from Kevin’s suspicion that there was something brewing between Carl and Abi. He hoped that by pretending to continue his treatment, he could rekindle Abi’s love for him.
Carl eventually discovered that Kevin was cancer-free. However, Kevin retaliated by exposing Carl’s shady MOT dealings at his garage.
Kevin threatened Carl, stating that if he revealed to Abi that he was no longer battling cancer, he would report Carl’s illicit activities to the police. But in Monday’s episode (July 28), Abi uncovered the truth, leaving her absolutely furious.
Facing Kevin, he apologised to Abi and confessed that he lied about his cancer in a desperate attempt to prevent her from leaving him for Carl. Unable to stand the sight of him, a distraught Abi left and found comfort in Carl’s arms – leading to a passionate encounter at the garage.
However, Kevin later reinforced his threat to report Carl to the police, which frightened Carl away. Consequently, he ended things with Abi and advised her to return to Kevin.
Moreover, upcoming spoilers reveal that Carl is set to face another setback. At the garage, Kevin informs Carl that he’s been sacked as he can no longer trust him.
Carl concedes that a fresh start might be beneficial. When Abi questions Carl’s whereabouts, Kevin implies that he resigned and plans to start anew elsewhere. Abi is secretly devastated, while Debbie attempts to convince Carl to stay.
