Coronation Street viewers believe they’ve cracked Bernie Winter’s true intentions for her fiancé Dev Alahan’s cash gift.
This year on the soap, Bernie (played by Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) took their relationship to the next level by tying the knot.
The pair first struck up a romance a few years ago. Despite both of their quirks, Dev has welcomed Bernie into his home and life with his children, putting her criminal past behind her
He has also supported her through difficult times, including the death of her son Paul (Peter Ash) who died last year after a battle with MND (Motor Neurone Disease).
However, Dev had to leave Weatherfield in February shortly after getting engaged to Bernie. This was due to a family crisis in India, leaving his son Aadi (Adam Hussain) to manage his corner shop.
Dev recently made a welcome return to the cobbles, much to Bernie’s delight. Unbeknownst to him, Bernie and Aadi are harbouring a massive secret.
Last week, Aadi staged a phoney robbery at the shop, hoping to claim insurance money to resolve financial issues he’s encountered while running the business.
Bernie discovered the truth and agreed to keep mum until they knew whether the insurance company would pay out.
However, in Friday’s episode (July 25), Aadi was informed that he wouldn’t receive a penny from the insurer due to a missed payment, reports Leicestershire Live.
Later, Dev disclosed to Bernie that his Aunt Rani is gifting them £25k as a wedding present. Realising part of this windfall could cover Aadi’s debt, Bernie suggested to Dev that they should hasten their wedding plans – a proposal he accepted.
Yet, fans are now speculating that Bernie has no intention of using the funds to aid Aadi. Instead, they suspect she’s plotting to abscond with the money.
“Who else thinks Bernie is going to do a runner with the cash from Dev’s aunty?” pondered one viewer on a Corrie Facebook fan page.
Another agreed: “Yes same here.” A third voiced their concern: “I would be so mad if she did.” Yet another fan wrote: “You never know these days, but I hope not, she and Dev are good together!”.
