Coronation Street fans are speculating that a soap legend could be returning to the cobbles, causing a stir for Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter.

Dev (played by Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) first sparked a romance a few years back. The duo, despite their differences, have since blossomed into an unconventional yet endearing couple.

Bernie, with her criminal past, has been welcomed by Dev into his home and life with his children. He’s stood by her through thick and thin, including the tragic loss of her son Paul (Peter Ash), who sadly passed away last year after battling Motor Neurone Disease.

Earlier this year, Dev took their relationship to the next level by proposing to Bernie, to which she happily said yes. However, in February, Dev had to leave for India due to his Aunt Gita’s unfortunate accident.

Recently, Dev made his much-anticipated return to the cobbles, bringing joy to Bernie. This week, the couple started discussing plans for their upcoming wedding, reports Leicestershire Live. However, in true soap opera style, fans are predicting that their big day might not go as smoothly as planned.

Fans are even predicting the comeback of Maya Sharma (Sasha Behar), who first appeared on the soap in 2003 as Dev’s lover. Things escalated quickly with Maya’s jealousy and paranoia playing out on screen.

But when Dev began getting close to his ex-wife and mother of his child, Sunita (Shobna Gulati), things really heated up.

Particularly when Dev ultimately ditched Maya to reunite with his ex-lover Sunita. Furious, Maya stopped at nothing to get her revenge.

In one of the soap’s most memorable moments back in 2004, Maya bound Dev and Sunita in the flat above their shop. Attempting to murder the duo, she then triggered a gas blast. Nevertheless, her scheme backfired as she attempted her getaway.

After spending time recovering in hospital, it was subsequently revealed that Maya had been imprisoned awaiting trial. But since that dramatic storyline, Maya hasn’t been referenced whatsoever.

Nevertheless, more than two decades on and viewers believe a return for Maya could be in the works to stir up trouble on Dev’s big day with Bernie.

On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “As much as I like Dev and Bernie things probably aren’t going to last are they!”.

Someone else suggested: “Get Mad Maya back!”. A third chimed in: “I would love this, on their wedding day as well”. Another fan agreed: “Love this theory!”.

A fifth mused: “Might be possible as she’s probably released from prison now. Plus I don’t think Bernie and Dev will have a happy ending.”
