Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has confirmed Cassie Plummer’s future in a new interview.
Claire joined the ITV soap in 2023 as Cassie, the drug-addicted, long-lost mother of Tyrone Dobbs, and Evelyn Plummer’s estranged daughter.
She has tried hard to get sober and keep her life on track, but episodes this year saw everything blow up in her face when it was revealed she had been drugging and stealing from Ken Barlow while acting as his carer.
The fallout from the revelation saw her sacked and almost disowned by Tyrone until Evelyn persuaded him not to turn his back on his mother.
And soap fans won’t be cutting Cassie off any time soon either, with Claire confirming she has signed another Corrie contract.

“To be there for another year, I felt honoured and absolutely thrilled. I just love the job and I’ve been very lucky with my storylines as well,” she told Woman’s Weekly.
“From going in as the druggie, doing heavy, dramatic stuff with Maureen Lipman, then doing nice light comedy stuff with Simon Gregson and catty stuff with Kate Ford. It’s great, brilliantly written stuff.”
The former Brookside star opened up about how the role of Cassie came to her when she was having a “wobble” in her career.
She continued: “I think most women have a wobble when they turn 50. You become a bit reflective. You look where you are.

“And at the time I just thought, ‘You know what? I’m still working. I’m still doing work that I love and I can never grumble.”
She went on to say that landing a role in Corrie became a real turning point for her, and she is “grateful” for the opportunities she has had throughout her career.
“I’ve done brilliant things in my life and in my career, and I’m grateful and thankful. But when I got into Corrie at the age of 52, it was a lovely, lovely surprise and a real turning point for me,” she said.
“When I was younger, I wouldn’t think, ‘This is fabulous.’ It would be, ‘What’s next?’ But with Corrie, I’m so appreciating it and I’m staying in the moment.”
