Coronation Street’s Gary Windass has had a bad time of late after being beaten up by David Platt at a charity boxing match, but his fortunes are looking up after he popped the question to his on-off girlfriend Sarah Platt.
David (Jack P. Shepherd), who is tormented after being sexually assaulted, beat Gary to a pulp at the boxing match and Gary had to be hospitalized.

While recovering in hospital, Sarah (Tina O’Brien) came to visit a weak and badly beaten Gary (Mikey North).
Sarah is still recovering following Gary’s betrayal with social worker Nicola Rubinstein, but decides to try repair bridges and asks him to move in with her.
After she questions him for “not looking very sure” he admits that he’s worried about money as he won’t be able to work for a while in his current state.

She says that she could sell the ring he gave her “if worst comes to worst”. He takes her hand and says: “Yeah, get rid of the piece of rubbish. I’ll buy you an engagement ring instead.”
Sarah is taken aback and responds: “Is that for real?”
Gary smiles and replies: “If you’ll have me, that is.”
She’s understandably gobsmacked, but accepts his proposal before throwing her arms around him.
