Even a ‘Yellowstone’ Star Thinks This On-Screen Death Went Too Far

Have you ever watched something and thought that what you just saw was a little too absurd? Sure, there’s a such thing as suspension of disbelief. You have to have that a little bit, particularly in works of fiction. Additionally, you don’t want to be that guy nitpicking every little moment either. But sometimes, you see something so jarringly ridiculous, you can’t help but scoff at it. For Yellowstone, this wasn’t usually an issue.

Sure, what happened with Kevin Costner’s character is probably a little lazy. You can probably pick out some moments and roll your eyes a little bit. But typically, Taylor Sheridan tended to succeed in not taking away from the show’s drama. However, there’s one moment with a particular star on Yellowstone that was probably a little too silly even for him. It got to the point where even he bickered with Sheridan about how to handle the scene. Yellowstone' Fans Think John Dutton's Still Alive + I Know Why

The Yellowstone Death That Made One Actor Feel Ridiculous

Mild spoiler alert ahead. However, if you’re reading this and you haven’t seen all of it, what are you even doing here? Anyways, recently, Josh Holloway spoke to USA Today about his character Roarke Carter’s death in Yellowstone. He played an antagonist in the show before dying in season 4. Carter gets bitten in the face by a rattlesnake and almost immediately dies due to the venom.

Reading it out loud, it seems a little far fetched, especially since Holloway was bitten in the face. This was a point of contention between himself and Taylor Sheridan. He argues that being bitten in the neck would make it much more dramatic, a key component to make Yellowstone work. Moreover, he probably shouldn’t die so quickly either. Ultimately, Holloway agrees but some bickering back and forth and the scene plays out as Sheridan wrote it.

In the end, the actor feels like the scene came out looking great anyway and Yellowstone didn’t suffer for it. “I agree. We talked about that, Taylor and I. I said, at least do the jugular, so we could at least say it was a direct shot. We could say that. And he was like, ‘But it looks better here.’ And I was like, ‘But I wouldn’t die that fast!’” Holloway recalls on the set of Yellowstone. “We had this argument. He said that it’s drama, and it looks better this way. Do it. And it did come out great.”
