Emmerdale star Danny Miller has revealed a secret Aaron Dingle rewrite that fans didn’t know about when he returned to the soap.
The actor, who has played the character on-and-off since 2008, recalled his comeback in 2023 while speaking on the Off Script podcast.
When co-host Kelvin Fletcher brought up the fact that Danny has won numerous awards over the years, the Aaron actor recalled an amusing and painful incident that led to a swift change in his soap storyline.
“I have to actually be honest, when I went back to Emmerdale a couple of years ago, it was a long time ago that I was winning all those awards so I thought I’ll box them up,” he shared, joking: “I don’t want to get rid of them, I might auction them off if I get skint on eBay!”
After deciding to put them in his loft, however, things took a dangerous turn, Danny recalling: “When I came back down the ladder, I stepped back on my knee and my knee went back the other way, and I did my ACL [anterior cruciate ligament]!”

Amid the desperate situation, he rang now-former Emmerdale producer Jane Hudson to suggest they rewrite his return to the soap.
“I said, ‘Because my knee’s gone, I can’t walk’,” he continued. “So they wrote it in that I’d been beaten up badly and done my knee in, because I couldn’t walk for six weeks.
“So she said, ‘How did you do it?’ And I said, ‘I’m not going to answer that question… I stepped off a ladder’.”

Danny admitted that he took a while to reveal the full truth to his colleagues, and now it’s a “running joke” on set that he got an injury by putting his awards away.
In other news, the actor announced last month that he and wife Steph Jones are expecting their third child together, sharing in a post: “Three is the magic number.
