Zane Davis’ Harrowing Story Revisited In 1923 As Beloved Star Makes Comeback

The Yellowstone prequel 1923 has dropped another episode on The Paramount Network and Paramount Plus, shaking things up by bringing back a familiar face from the first season. While Harrison Ford’s character Jacob Dutton was in town, he caught up with the judge on springing Zane Davis (performed by Brian Geraghty) and his family from their binds.

Zane was in hospital with some serious injuries following the beating he succumbed to in season one. But Jacob offered to take them under his wing, sparing the State a headache.

Zane, hailed as the ‘Rip Wheeler of 1923’, used to run the show at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch with an iron fist, standing by as the trusty foreman, and is married to Alice Chow (played by Joy Osmanski). The couple share two children, Matthew and Madelyn.

As the curtain fell on the first series, viewers found out Zane’s wife is Asian, and their interracial relationship resulted in them being arrested. All because Zane stood his ground, looking to shield his wife from the fall-out of Montana’s anti-miscegenation laws, reports the Mirror US.

The actor opened up to Woman’s World that this plot hits close to home, sharing: “It’s a meaningful storyline for me because it’s actually personal in my own life. I had the privilege to learn about that and what it would have been like or what it’s like today.”

He went on, reflecting on the bigger picture: “And I think it mirrors, in ways, what we’re going through as a nation and what we’ll always go through, which is segregation and racism.”

After his arrest, Zane was carted off to Bozeman, Montana, to await trial. The actor himself pondered aloud: “Will he be able to do his job, which is work for the Duttons? And if not, what does that mean for him? If he can’t have this job anymore, who is he and where is he?”

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss what happens to him, with OK_Concentrate_9863 reckoning there is a 50/50 chance he will die.

They chimed in: “One of my favorite characters in 1923. In true TS fashion, he’s the guy you like that then gets killed.

“If Zane and his wife are both dead, then I can certainly see the Duttons taking their children under their wing.”

But the latest instalment let slip that the duo didn’t die behind bars, and despite a tough trek back to the homestead, Zane and Alice were back in each other’s arms.
