Helen Mirren is reflecting on her stance to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan after her previous project with the director left the audience divided. Sheridan added another jewel to his Yellowstone crown when he added the prequel 1923.

For the project, Sheridan collaborated with acting powerhouses like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren to narrate the back story of television’s popular Western. While the show is generally considered a hit, it has also managed to divide the audience like never before. Amid this, the veteran actress, who was introduced as Dutton matriarch in Season 1 in 2022, is sharing her real thoughts about the scope of a future collaboration with Sheridan.

Is Helen Mirren ever going to work with Taylor Sheridan again?

Well, judging by her reaction, Helen Mirren would “love to work” with Yellowstone-famed Taylor Sheridan again. But that’s where she drew the line, as she claimed that though she would love to revisit Cara, the possibility is slim.

The MobLand actress shared with Gold Derby,

I’d love to revisit Cara, but you know that’s not going to happen. The great thing about [1923] is there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Mirren clarified that though she would always cherish the formidable Cara Dutton, the probability of her reprising the role is almost nil. She explained that her story, along with 1923’s track, received a complete closure when it wrapped up in April after the second season.

The Oscar winner paired up with another Hollywood great, Harrison Ford, for the show, where Ford played her onscreen husband, Jacob Dutton. Mirren, however, revealed that for 1923, both of them had submitted to the creative vision of Sheridan. She implied that they took a gamble when they committed “without reading a single word of the characters or the story or anything.”

While it was a novelty for her, Mirren shared that she was impressed, so much so that she would love to collaborate with Sheridan in some other project.

I would love to work with Taylor again, in a different manifestation. Absolutely. I would always love to work with him. For an actor, we deal in words, and words is what Taylor does so very, very well.

While Sheridan’s rich tapestry of storytelling captivated audiences all over the globe, it made even an actress with more than six decades of acting experience his fan. Thus, as she spoke about Sheridan, the British-born actress made it clear that she has no qualms about collaborating with the talented showrunner again.

1923, created by Taylor Sheridan, has been directed by Ben Richardson and Guy Ferland, and acts as a prequel to the Kevin Costner-starrer Yellowstone.

Helen Mirren shared the one reason why she thought Taylor Sheridan changed the Westerns

It is no longer a secret that Mirren was never a great fan of Westerns. Yet, watching Sheridan’s 2017 film Wind River prompted a change in her heart. She explained that witnessing Sheridan narrating the tales of nuanced and flawed characters changed her perspective.

She said that while the older Westerns categorized women in set pieces, Sheridan portrayed deep women characters. She told Rolling Stone that it was one of the reasons she knew 1923 would be great.

In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said,

I just love the fact that young women now can watch 1923 or any of Taylor’s pieces and see really interesting, complicated, vulnerable, strong… just real people who happen to be women on the screen.

She added in her interview that the most important thing that Sheridan added to his female characters is “complexity,” and that is something really commendable. Thanking the creator for writing nuanced characters like Cara, she shared that he has now changed the landscape for Westerns.

With such high praises in place, it is the audience’s utmost desire that the duo should collaborate again in a future project. And, as Mirren has hinted, she is not averse to the idea.
