Emmerdale’s Jonny McPherson has praised his co-star Paula Lane amid the pair’s on-screen feud.
The villagers recently grew suspicious of Ella Forster following Chas Dingle’s collapse at The Woolpack, after it seemed someone may have tampered with Chas’s medication.
In scenes set to air next week, Liam Cavanagh is feared dead after a showdown with ex-partner Ella.
Liam and Chas come up against an unknown individual who tries to cancel their upcoming wedding and immediately suspect it’s Ella.
The situation ends in a heated confrontation which sees Ella grabbing a knife and running into the forest, where she pushes Liam to the ground causing him to hit his head.
Speaking about working together on the tense scenes, Jonny praised Paula, calling her a “wonderful lady”.
“She’s obviously impeccably professional, which is born from many years working on Corrie. Obviously the genre that we work in is very particular in terms of the working requirements and she’s got more experience than many of us!” he told Digital Spy and other press.
“She was in Corrie for seven years working 12 hour days week in, week out, so she’s impeccably professional.”
Opening up about the former couple’s upcoming showdown, Jonny said: “I think Liam feels personally responsible because he sees that the feelings he has for Ella were not anywhere near as deep as the ones he has for Chas.

“All of the pain and confusion inflicted upon Chas, he feels personally responsible for that. He struggles with that and wants to do everything he possibly can to make it go away.”
He added: “I think he knows that if it came to it, he could overpower Ella. I think he just still wants to help her and that plays out with how the scene evolves. He just wants to give her a cuddle and tell her it’s going to be okay.”
