Emmerdale‘s Eric Pollard has made a huge mistake after putting his faith in Tracy Robinson.
In a recent funeral episode, viewers gained access into some intriguing flashbacks from Leyla Harding’s perspective, which revealed three big secrets that she had discovered just before she died.
One of the flashbacks saw Tracy secretly pocketing money while serving at the local shop. After paying for a bottle of wine, Leyla opened her compact mirror and witnessed Tracy taking the money, rather than putting it in the till.
When confronted, Tracy confessed that she’d been stealing small amounts from the shop for a while, because her estranged husband Nate hadn’t been paying child maintenance for their daughter Frankie.
Shop owner Eric hadn’t noticed Tracy’s ongoing theft, even though she had stolen over £2,000. However, in tonight’s episode, Tracy feared Eric was onto her scheme when he told her they needed to discuss the books.
“Tracy, can I have a word about the accounts?” asked a concerned Eric.
Tracy quickly promised that she could explain, but was cut off by her boss who was still unaware of the theft and surprised her with an unexpected offer. Eric wanted to give her more financial control of the shop so he could focus on his grandson Jacob Gallagher, who was still grieving his mum Leyla.
“Your efforts to keep us afloat have not gone unnoticed,” Eric said earnestly. “I would like you to take over all of the book-keeping for the time being, which frees me up so I can support Jacob.”
Tracy tried to brush off the suggestion but Eric’s mind was made up as he insisted: “I could pay you for the extra hours, for sure. But it has to be somebody that I can trust.”
But will Eric’s trust lead to his downfall, or will Tracy see the error of her ways?
