Emmerdale star Katie Hill has opened up about the special bond she shares with her on-screen grandmother, Emma Atkins, who portrays the feisty and protective Charity Dingle.

Having played Sarah Sugden for over half a decade, Katie has been at the heart of some of the soap’s most emotional and intense storylines,
from her battle with Fanconi anaemia to navigating the dangerous world of drug dealing.
Now, she is set to embark on yet another thrilling journey with a mysterious new character named Kammy, played by Shebz Miah.

In upcoming episodes, Sarah’s path crosses with Kammy when she stumbles upon him struggling with a quad bike.

Her initial suspicion soon transforms into intrigue as she becomes unexpectedly drawn into his world.

Their connection leads to a surprising partnership, with Sarah helping Kammy in his questionable activities, including racing stolen quad bikes. However, her involvement does not go unnoticed, as her ever-watchful grandmother, Charity, begins to grow suspicious of the newcomer and his intentions.
Speaking about her bond with Emma Atkins, Katie Hill revealed just how close the two have become behind the scenes. “My relationship with Emma is amazing. She’s such a funny, lovely person, and we share a dressing room together, so in between scenes, we’re always catching up,” Katie shared. “Emma is more like a best friend to me, and she’s nowhere near as old as my grandma! If I’m having a bad day, she’s the first one to notice and ask if I’m okay. We have a really nice relationship, and honestly, we’re all a close bunch.”
On Kammy’s arrival in the Dales, Katie offered a glimpse into what fans can expect. “Kammy is a really fun, bubbly, and cheeky character. He’s a bit of a bad boy, but he’s got a soft side as well,” she said. The actress is confident that viewers will quickly warm to the new arrival. “I think the audience is really going to like him. I can’t wait to see where Sarah and Kammy’s story goes. I think he’s going to be a really strong addition to the show.”

While Sarah’s growing bond with Kammy is set to bring a rebellious side to the surface, Katie hinted that her character remains torn between two influences in her life. “Kammy brings out the Dingle side of Sarah, whereas Jacob [Gallagher] sort of brings her back. You’ll have to wait and see what happens with that,” she teased, hinting at a potential love triangle or a clash of influences.
Meanwhile, Charity is keeping a close eye on her granddaughter’s new friendship, and her protective instincts are kicking in. Katie explained, “Charity is suspicious of Kammy from the start. She wants to find out more about him and do a bit of digging.” As someone who has always been fiercely protective of Sarah, Charity is unlikely to let this new alliance go unchecked.

Fans of Emmerdale can expect plenty of drama as Sarah’s association with Kammy leads her down a dangerous path, potentially putting her at odds with her family. With Charity determined to get to the bottom of Kammy’s true motives and Sarah embracing her Dingle roots more than ever, tensions are bound to rise.
With Katie Hill’s excitement about the storyline and the introduction of Shebz Miah’s character, it’s clear that big things are in store for Sarah Sugden. Whether Kammy turns out to be a good influence or spells trouble for Sarah remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure—viewers won’t want to miss a second of the action in Emmerdale.
