Coronation Street‘s Cassie Plummer is targeted in a shocking revenge plan later this month as Tracy McDonald plots against her.
In upcoming scenes, Cassie faces one of the most difficult moments of her life as Tracy tries to tempt her back into using drugs.
Cassie recently made enemies of the entire Barlow family when she was caught out for drugging Ken and stealing from him.
Viewers know that Cassie was spiking Ken’s drinks with antihistamines to make him drowsy, as she wanted him to be totally reliant on her.
She also took advantage of Ken’s confused state by using his credit card to make expensive online purchases.
Looking ahead to what’s next, dramatic scenes in the coming fortnight see scheming Tracy summon Cassie back to No.1.
Tracy claims that she wants to settle their differences and serves lunch for Cassie.
In a nasty surprise, Tracy’s true agenda becomes clear as she hands Cassie some drugs and urges her to get stuck in, determined to ruin her life.
Cassie stares longingly at the drugs and is severely tempted to fall back into her old habits.
Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie, told Digital Spy and other press: “For Cassie, there’s a moment of: ‘Well I might as well just do it. I’ve got nothing else’. It’s just a quick escape route if she takes those drugs.
“But there’s a moment of: ‘Tracy has completely won’. Cassie doesn’t want that. She wants to keep her dignity, she wants to stay in control.
“There is a moment of complete temptation. She’s sleeping rough and she’s got no other options except to do this. But she doesn’t – she stays strong.
“Kate [Ford, who plays Tracy] and I have some great scenes in this story. I love that. There’s the caring relationship with Ken, the lust for Steve McDonald and this cat and dog with Tracy and Cassie. It makes for really exciting stuff.
“Tracy could scream and call Cassie all sorts of terrible things and Cassie deserves it, but to just calmly bring her in and be lovely to her and tempt her with the drugs – it was written brilliantly, that stuff.”
Claire also promised that a different direction is coming up for Cassie now that her cruel deception is finally out in the open.
She said: “I think there was a sense of relief for Cassie when she was found out, because she couldn’t have just carried on the way she was. It was always going to come to a head. There has to be a bit of a redemption arc with the character.

“There’s got to be vulnerabilities. There’s got to be some sort of comeuppance for everything she’s done. You see the vulnerabilities, you see the scenes where she’s explaining to Ken her reasons and her motives. She’s prepared to take the consequences on the nose, but look at the reasons she’s actually done it.”
Coronation Street airs Cassie and Tracy’s showdown on Friday, March 14 on ITV1 and ITVX.
