Emmerdale has confirmed funeral plans for Suzy Merton, following her death in last week’s limo crash.
Suzy was one of three to lose their lives when the girls’ limo crashed into the icy lake, alongside Leyla Harding and Amy Barton, with many villagers still reeling in the aftermath of their losses.
The ITV soap has teased upcoming funeral scenes for Leyla and Amy, but no details were shared on a memorial for Suzy.
In tonight’s episode, Suzy’s girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield confirmed why Suzy’s send-off would differ from the others.
Vanessa popped into the Woolpack, where Charity was working behind the bar. Charity poured her a glass of wine on the house and apologised for Suzy’s death, having been the one driving the limo on the night of the crash.
Vanessa told Charity it wasn’t her fault, insisting it was an accident and the two opened up on missing Suzy.
Mary joined the two at the bar and Vanessa revealed she’d been on the phone to Suzy’s parents to discuss funeral arrangements. She shared that Suzy was to buried in her hometown, away from the Dales, as per her parents’ wishes.
A concerned Charity asked Vanessa if she had a say in the arrangements, but Vanessa was respectful of the parents decision, though admitted she was nervous to go, not knowing Suzy’s parents.
Charity suggested that Tracey should accompany her, but Vanessa said Tracey had enough on her plate.
She instead turned to Mary and asked if she would attend Suzy’s funeral with her.
“Course I’ll go with you, you need to be there to say goodbye to Suzy,” Mary replied, giving Vanessa a hug and settling the problem.
Mary’s attendance at Suzy’s funeral is also significant, with Mary once having romantic feelings for Suzy, before Suzy rekindled her relationship with Vanessa.
Suzy being buried away from the Dales explains why fans shouldn’t expect a big village funeral for her, like Leyla and Amy.
