EASTENDERS’ Sonia Fowler breaks the tragic news of Martin’s death to daughter Bex in a first look clip – as fans predict her return.
Thursday’s live episode of EastEnders saw Martin die after a steel beam crushed him, as true love Stacey Slater sobbed by his side.
Meanwhile Sonia – who had daughter Bex with Martin when they were teenagers – was oblivious to his death as she gave birth to baby Julia in the Vic kitchen before being taken to hospital.
But in a first look clip at Monday’s episode, Sonia has learned the tragic news and has the unenviable task of telling Bex, who left Walford in 2020.
Sitting up in her hospital bed, an emotional Sonia called her daughter and asked if she was with anyone.
After Bex replied, Sonia said: “I’m not snooping Bex, It’s just I, erm, I need to tell you something and it would be really lovely if there was a friend with you there right now.”
As the camera pans to other Walford residents sobbing over Martin’s death – including Ruby and Zac – Sonia continued: “Oh god I really wish I was there with you now darlin’.
“It’s about your dad.”
Sonia struggled to contain her tears as she said: “There was an accident, urm….and he died darlin’.”
As Bianca and Lauren stand at the foot of her hospital bed in tears – with Lauren cradling baby Julia – Sonia told Bex: “No it’s real. He died and urm….I’m so sorry.”
EastEnders viewers will have to wait and see if this means Bex will return to Albert Square for her dad’s funeral, but many have predicted she will.
Bex was last played by Jasmine Armfield from 2014 to 2020, when the character decided to have a gap year before attending Oxford university and travel the world.
EastEnders legend killed off in heartbreaking 40th anniversary live episode
While viewers have to wait to find out if they’ll see Bex on screen, yesterday EastEnders confirmed another member of the Fowler family will be back following Martin’s demise.
Vicki Fowler will set foot in Albert Square for the first time in over 20 years to attend her uncle’s funeral, bringing her new boyfriend Ross and his son Joel with her.
Soap fans may remember Vicki as the fresh faced younger sister of Sharon and brother Dennis, played by actress Scarlett Alice Johnson.
However the Vicki Fowler of 2025 comes with a new actress to EastEnders, as Rain Dogs star Alice Haig is taking on the part.
She’ll be joined by The Bill and Holby City actor Alex Walkinshaw (Ross) and newcomer Max Murray (Joel).
