EASTENDERS fans screeched in horror as Martin Fowler tragically died – before making a swift exit from a live viewing party.
Die-hard fans of the BBC soap turned out in their droves to the Boxpark bar in Wembley to watch the special episode.
Completely live from their set in Elstree, Borehamwood, James Bye and Lacey Turner delivered their final scenes together as Martin and Stacey.
Martin was tragically killed off by bosses for EastEnders’ 40th anniversary after succumbing to his injuries from the explosion at The Vic.
He had been crushed under a falling steel beam after rescuing Stacey from the wreckage.
In heartbreaking scenes he proposed to Stacey and planned the next 40 years of their lives before the paramedics told Stacey that he would likely not survive.
As he died in her arms, the crowd gathered were left devastated and screeched in terror at the scenes.
The Sun can reveal some fans were so traumatised by the shock death that they left early, despite the event running until 11pm.
An onlooker said: “EastEnders fans packed out the Boxpark at Wembley.
“It was an amazing atmosphere and the camaraderie between fans of all ages was amazing to see.
“Throughout the live episode everyone was reacting to the scenes on the screens as Sonia gave birth and Denise chose Jack.
“But Martin being killed off went down badly and people sprung up from their seats screaming in shock and some even called it a night and stormed out just as the credits rolled.

“Killing off such a legendary character proved too much to devastated fans.”
Speaking on his dramatic exit, James Bye said: “Saying goodbye is not easy, but after 10 years at EastEnders and on the night of the shows epic 40th anniversary – the time felt right.
“It’s an honour to leave on a story of this magnitude.
“A huge thank you to all the fans of the show – EastEnders wouldn’t be what it is without you – and to the BBC and EastEnders team for trusting me with this role for so many years.
“This fruit and veg man will always hold a special place in my heart.
“It’s time to look forward, and I’m incredibly excited for what the future holds. RIP Martin Fowler.”
