Coronation Street fans have been left floored after realising Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel Osbourne, has a famous soap star boyfriend.
Daniel, now played by Rob, has been a staple on the soap since his debut way back in 1995. And as the son of legend Ken Barlow (William Roache), he’s been involved in several big storylines.
From his many romances on the cobbles to even trying to kill his beloved father and coping with the death of wife Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), his time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.
Especially in the last few months, as this year he was left heartbroken when Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) left the street after five years.
Away from Coronation Street though, fans have been left gobsmacked after realising Daniel actor Rob Mallard is dating a soap co-star.
Earlier this year, his beau Matthew Martin appeared on the show as a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) at the end of a dramatic episode.
Matthew took to Instagram at the time in February to gush about his appearance in Weatherfield. He shared a snap on Instagram as he posed alongside his boyfriend Rob.
He said: “Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer. All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @rob.mallard for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes.”
Fans are left floored after realising why they recognised Matthew. One person declared: “I thought I recognised them well then!!”
Someone else penned: “Amazing and well done. How wonderful for Rob too. This is a great photo of you both!” A third chimed in: “Bring you boyfriend to work day! Lol…ahhhh amazing xx.”
Previously, Rob dated co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays vicar Billy Mayhew. The soap stars dated in 2017 and made their red carpet debut together at the British LGBT awards. However, the couple split two months after going public with their relationship.
